How to use the San Diego Cellular Traffic Report System?

I dont want to get text messages anymore! How do I unsubscribe?
- Simply delete the Daily Report and/or My Alert you added. You should be
logged in to perform these operations.
How do I delete my account?
- Go to My Account and click on the delete my account button at the bottom. You should be
logged in to perform this operation.
I dont see my exit or highway listed.
- Unfortunately traffic speeds are not available for certain regions of highways. That is why you dont see
your exit or highway listed. If you dont see your exit listed, please select the closest exit that is available. Please visit our coverage map page for detailed coverage information.
I am unable to login or add commutes.
Can I access the website from a Macintosh?
- The website is compatible with Netscape/Mozilla on a Macintosh. It is not compatible with Safari and Internet Explorer on a Macintosh.
How much does it cost to use the Traffic Report System?
- Our system is completely FREE.
Why should I sign up for an account?
- Once you sign up for an account, you can customize the traffic report according to your own commute routes.
Why do we need your cell phone number?
- If you are an iPhone user and have downloaded our app, you only need to provide your number if you want to receive traffic alerts and daily reports via SMS, else you can enter a random 10 digit number.
- For users who call our toll free number, our system will identify you by your caller-id and automatically play your personalized traffic reports. Hence we need your cell phone number to identify you when you call.
- We do not resell user data or spam our users in any way.
How accurate is the estimated highway travel time we provide?
- It is only a rough estimate and should be used in a relative manner. It is a rough estimate, since traffic flow information
is available only at discrete points on the highway. We compute the time from the average speed of the traffic flow at
these discrete points. The speed at which you drive may be faster or slower than this average.
- The estimated highway travel time does not include the time it takes for you to travel non-highways such as Mira Mesa
Blvd. You could use estimated highway travel time in a realtive fashion. If the estimated travel time without any
congestions is "10 minutes" and you if the system informs you the estimated travel time is "16 minutes", that should
give you an idea how congested your commute is.
Where do we get the traffic flow data from?
- We get the traffic flow data from the Caltrans Department.

How does the traffic alert feature work?
- The traffic alert feature will constantly monitor the traffic along your route during the time interval you specify. If the traffic is "worse" than usual, you will be alerted via a text message to your cell phone and/or via e-mail.
You will be NOT be notified whenever there is a congestion, but only when the traffic patterns deviate from normal. For example, we all know there is severe congestion on Friday eveings. This is normal and you do not want to be alerted. However, if your Friday evening commute is significantly worse than usual you may want to be alerted.
How often do you alert us?
- We will alert you only once during the morning or evening if there is a congestion for your route.
Under what conditions will I get alerted?
- Suppose the parameters you chose for an alert are
Between 7:00 and 8:00 Am
Worse than usual by 50%
Notify me by Text Message
We know what the traffic pattern looks like for your morning commute between 7:00-8:00 am based on the past few months of traffic history we analyze.For example, your average commute time if you left home at 7:45 am could be 20 minutes and at 8:00 am could be 30 mintues. If your commute time at 7:45 am on any day exceeds 30 minutes (50% more than the average of 20 minutes) then you will get alerted. Similarly, if your commute time at 8:00 am on any day exceeds 45 minutes (50% more than the average of 30 minutes) you will get alerted as well. If you are getting alerted more than you would like, simply increase the threshold. If you are not getting alerted
enough, decrease the threshold.
Do I have to pay for alerts?
- We do not charge anything. Your wireless carrier (Verizon, Cingular, etc) may charge you for receiving Text Messages. Typically its free or costs a few cents per message.
Why am I not receiving any alerts?
- This could be due to a couple of reasons. First, check if you selected the right wireless carrier of your cell phone in the accounts page. Second, you could have set the threshold of the alerts to be very high and the traffic in your route never exceeds that threshold. If you think its none of these, please send us send us feedback and we will take a look at it.

What does the My Daily Report feature do?
- This feature automatically sends your traffic report to you every day at a time you specify. You can choose to receive the report
as a text message (SMS) on your phone or via e-mail.
Why am I not receiving my daily report on my cell phone?
- This could be due to a couple of reasons. First, check if you selected the right wireless carrier of your cell phone in the accounts page. Second, check if you have selected to receive the daily report via SMS in the My Alert page. If you think its none of these, please send us send us feedback and we will take a look at it.
What does theMy Best Time to Commute feature do?
- Suppose you leave for work at 8 am and it takes you 40 mins to get to work. The traffic patterns may be such that if you left at 8.15 am instead, it could take you only 30 mins to get to work. It could also be the case that on Mondays the best time to commute is 8.10 am and on Wednesdays the best time is 8.30 am. We help you determine these sweet spots by analyzing the traffic flow on your route for the past three months and by presenting you with graphs which tells you how long your commute times would be depending on when you leave.

Who can report an incident?
- To prevent spam, only authorized users can report incidents. If you would like to be authorized, please write to us.
Why does the system have difficulties recognizing certain exit names?
- This could be due to a couple of reasons. (i) We only cover exits which have traffic speed information. If you say an exit name which does not have speed information it will not understand. (ii) Some exit names with spanish roots such as Via De La Valle are in general harder to recognize.
Despite these issues, you still can report incidents for any exit. The system will prompt you for the exit name three times. If it still can not recognize the exit name, it will skip that step and will prompt you about the incident. You can include the exit name when you describe the incident. For e.g., you can say "Four car collision near Carmel Valley Rd etc".
